Langsam fängt alles an Sinn zu machen. Ich habe mich die ganze Zeit gefragt: warum Yoga in der westlichen Welt mehr oder weniger von Los Angeles ausgeht? Warum in dieser Stadt in Kalifornien so eine unglaubliche Präsenz von Yoga und Spiritualität herrscht? Warum diese außergewöhnliche Achtsamkeit für die eigene Gesundheit und das eigene Wohlbefinden gerade dort so ausgeprägt ist? Eine Erklärung dafür ist sicherlich die Einreise von Swami Paramahansa Yogananda 1920 in Los Angeles:

*Slowly, gradually, it all starts to make sense. In my ignorance I have been asking myself why Yoga in the western world has been spreading from LA. Why is there such an overwhelming presence of Yoga and spirituality in this Californian city? From where does this exceptional awareness for one's health and well-being arise? A reason or approach to find an explanation most certainly is Swami Paramahansa Yogananda.*

Gefühlt gibt es in jeder großen und in jeder Querstrasse ein Yoga Studio, wenn nicht zwei. Gefühlt hat auch jeder Zweite eine Yogamatte oder ein Surfbrett dabei. Obwohl ich viel Zeit in Los Angeles verbracht habe und fast täglich Yoga gemacht habe, war es mir unmöglich selbst die nur die großen Studios abzudecken.

*It feels as if there was a Yoga studio in every larger street and at least one in all of its crossroads, so it seems quite appropriate if every other person seems to carry a Yoga mat or a surfboard with themselves. Even though I spent lots of time in Los Angeles and practised Yoga almost daily, I failed in covering merely the larger studios.*

GRACIAS MADRE - a vegan Mexican restaurant

Gracias Madre ist ein köstlicher veganer Mexikaner in der Melrose Avenue (West Hollywood). Das Restaurant gehört den gleichen Besitzern wie das Café Gratitude. Das Essen ist bester Qualität und wirklich unbeschreiblich gut. Man vermisst hier erstaunlicher Weise Fleisch keineswegs. Gerade bei Mexikanischem Essen konnte ich es mir gar nicht vorstellen.

*Gracias Madre is a delicious vegan Mexican place in Melrose Avenue (West Hollywood). The restaurant is owned by the same people as Café Gratitude. The food is of the highest quality and really indescribably good. Surprisingly, one does not miss the meat at all. I imagined this to be a particular challenge with Mexican food.*

Um mir einen Eindruck zu verschaffen, habe ich den Farmers Market in Santa Monica besucht. Es gibt in nahezu jedem Stadtteil einen Farmers Market. Ausnahmslos jeder, den ich kennengelernt habe, macht seine Obst und Gemüse Einkäufe häufig auf dem Farmers Markt. Dort werden von den Bauern aus dem Umland nur biologische, lokale und saisonale Produkte angeboten.

*To get an impression I visited the farmers' market in Santa Monica. A market of this kind exists in nearly every corner of the city. Almost everyone I got to know here makes their purchases of fruit and vegetables regularly on the farmers' market. The farmers of the region offer exclusively organic, local and seasonal products there. *
